Cherish what you have instead of what you want
One of the most pervasive and destructive mental tendencies in the society is that of focusing on what we want instead of what we have. It doesn't seem to make any difference how much what we have; we just keep expanding our list of desires, which guarantees we will remain dissatisfied. The mind-set that says "I'll happy when this desire is fulfilled" is the same mind-set that will repeat itself once that desire is met.
在社会上最普遍的、最具破坏性的心理倾向之一就是:我们关注自己想要得到的,并不是自己已经拥有的。不管我们拥有多少似乎都毫无差别。我们只是不断地扩大自己的欲望清单,这就注定了我们永不知足。有着“如果这个愿望实现了,我就会幸福”的心态,一旦这个愿望得到满足以后,这种心态又会重新出现。
Luckily, there is a way to be happy. It involveds changine the emphasis of our thinking from what we want to what we have. Each time you notice yourself falling into the "I wish life were different" trap, back off and start over. Take a breath and remember all that you have to be grateful for.
幸运的是,幸福是有路可循的。它要求我们把思考的重点从我们想要的转移到我们已经拥有的东西上。每次你发现自己快要掉入“我希望生活是不同的”的陷阱中时,立即后退,重新开始。做一下深呼吸,记起所有让你心怀感激的东西。
