may\might\could

时间:2009-09-02 23:33 | 分类:学习笔记 - word
May - The biggest probability
Maight - The smallest probability
Could - Sth between

The modal auxiliary could is used to express present possibility:
We could always spend the afternoon just sitting around talking.
may and might
In the context of expressing possibility, may and might are interchangeable present and future forms and might + have + past participle is the past form.

l searched for my wallet and it wasn't there.l thought l (     )it at home.
A might have left    B could have left

综上所挖掘,might have done可表示过去可能发生的事,而could 只用于表现在可能发生的事,may 和might可互换,均表现在和将来可能发生的事.
故此题选用might have left.

how to distinguish between 'may' and 'can or could'?
on the differences in the subject meaning and the speaker and spoken (说话人与剧中人)I spoke a larger unto you ,but I may do a little bit (= if I do little bit , the mechine says I have permission)所以写好的大东东进不来
