如果在副词too前有修饰词all, but, only;那么不定式to表示的就是肯定的概念。

e.g. They are all too satisfied to work with you.他们都很满意，愿意和你一起工作。

   I am only too glad to have someone to speak to.我太高兴了，想找个说说话。

   He was but too eager to get home.他太急于想要回家了。

be impatient to do sth = be eager to = be anxious to = be hungry to = be thirsty to = be desperat to急于要做某事；迫不及待做某事

e.g. I am eager / anxious to see you.我太想见到你了。

I am hungry / thirsty to study English.我太渴望学习英语了。

He is desperate to get the news.他太急于想得知这个消息了。

as long ago as = date back to 追溯回到…

e.g. I knew Jane as long ago as the year 1980.我认识简要追溯到1980年了。

would rather = would sooner它们+that引导的宾语从句，宾语从句必须使用动词的过去式，表示一种虚拟的口吻。

e.g. I would rather / sooner that you were not here.我宁愿你现在不在这儿。

I would rather / sooner that I didn’t see you.我宁愿我没有见到你。

He would rather / sooner that he didn’t hear the news.他宁愿没有听到这个消息。

make a name for oneself = become famous 出名

e.g.They soon made quite a name for themselves as pop singers.作为流行歌手，他们很快就出了名。

=Do you want to become famous?你想出名吗？

Provide a regular supply of……定期地提供…

Provide sth for sb / provide sb with sth 为某人提供某物

e.g. The villagers provide a regular supply of food for soldiers.

The villagers provide the soldiers with a regular supply of food.村民们定期为战士们提供粮食。

go a long way = last a long time 可以维持很长的时间

e.g. The money we have will go a long way.我们现有的钱可以维持很长的时间。

go a long way towards 对…大有帮助

This will go a long way towards overcoming the difficulty.这对克服困难将大有帮助。

penny 便士；它的复数形式有两种，但它们的用法不同。

1. pence         2. pennies

a fifty pence一个五十便士的硬币  a fifty pennies五十个一便士的硬币

neither和nor都可表示“也不”，它们都是否定副词，用于句首时该句子必须倒装。

e.g. He could not find his fifty pence anywhere nor could he get his arm out.他不但找不到他那五十便士而且胳膊也抽不回来了。

well and truly(口语)确实地，完全地，彻底地

George was well and truly stuck.乔治被紧紧地卡住了。

Tom was well and turly drunk.汤姆完全醉了。
